Drip irrigation is an irrigation method that uses a low-pressure pipe system to directly transport water to the field, and then drips the water evenly and slowly into the soil near the root area of the crop through the drippers, orifices or drip irrigation belts installed on the capillary tubes, so that the soil in the area with well-developed crop roots can always maintain appropriate humidity, so that the water, fertilizer, air, heat, and microbial activity of the soil are always in good condition, and the crops have favorable conditions for stable production.

Common forms of drip irrigation belts include: patch drip irrigation belts, embedded cylindrical drip irrigation pipes, and labyrinth drip irrigation belts.

1. Patch drip irrigation belts: Patch drip irrigation belts use plastic hoses (drip irrigation pipes) to deliver water to the roots of crops through orifices or drippers on capillary tubes with a diameter of about 16 mm for local irrigation. It is through a dripper or drip irrigation belt with a very small outflow orifice that water is dripped evenly and slowly drop by drop into the soil near the roots of the crop.

2. Embedded cylindrical drip irrigation pipe: The drip irrigation pipe is an important irrigator in the drip irrigation system. It drips water and nutrients required by crops into the soil in the root zone of crops evenly and slowly through a low-pressure pipe system and a sprinkler installed on a capillary tube according to the water requirements of crops.

3. Labyrinth drip irrigation belt: The drip irrigation belt uses a plastic pipe (drip irrigation pipe [3]) to deliver water to the roots of crops through the orifices or drippers on the capillary tube with a diameter of about 10 mm for local irrigation. It drips water evenly and slowly into the soil near the roots of crops through drippers or drip irrigation belts with very small outflow orifices.

Notes:

1. The pipes and drippers of drip irrigation are easy to clog, and the water quality requirements are high, so filters must be installed;

2. Drip irrigation cannot adjust the microclimate of the field and is not suitable for irrigation during the freezing period. In vegetable irrigation, the drip irrigation system cannot be used to apply manure;

3. The investment in drip irrigation is high, and the economic benefits of crops must be considered.
